Horace
L. Farlowe was born February 26, 1933 in Robbins, North Carolina.
Even as a small child he felt compelled to draw. In 1953 after one
semester at Appalachian State University, Horace joined the US Marines
and was sent to Korea. After returning home in 1957, he studied architecture
at North Carolina State University. During graduate school Horace
turned his attention to sculpture and in particular, he experimented
with carving marble, the process and material that would dominate
the rest of his life.
Horace will be remembered as a true artist in every sense of the word.
His paintings and sculpture in public and private collections scattered
throughout the US and abroad are his legacy. It is his family’s
wish to continue his legacy through the establishment of a scholarship
that would assist future sculptors who share this passion to create
their art.
As a fitting tribute to his achievements and the lasting legacy he
left his students, friends, colleagues, and many others, Horace’s
family has established The Horace L. Farlowe Sculpture Scholarship.
Once fully funded, this important scholarship will support graduate
sculpture students attending the Lamar Dodd School of Art at The University
of Georgia.
